This lecture aims to give you the information you need to start getting involved with ultrasonography! Learn all about how it is used in companion animal practice. Aimed at both absolute beginners and those with ultrasound skills already in development, and can even be useful for veterinary surgeons looking to expand their knowledge on ultrasound and how they can effectively delegate this to veterinary nurses! From patient preparation and using your own machine to how ultrasound is applied to our patients, this lecture will build your confidence on everything ultrasound! The ultrasonographic anatomy of the thorax and abdomen will be discussed as well as abnormal findings and real life clinical cases! Learn how to improve patient care and outcomes by harnessing the wonderful imaging modality that is ultrasound!

Leaning objectives:
Understand and demonstrate the use of basic controls on the ultrasound machine to optimise ultrasound scan image quality
Understand when ultrasound can be used within the veterinary nursing job role
Recognise different organ structures and be able to identify normal appearance and structures when carrying out ultrasound scans
Recognise some basic abnormalities or complications that can commonly be seen on an ultrasound scan and apply these to clinical practice
