Farriery is a constantly evolving craft rooted in time-honoured principles yet shaped by ongoing innovation in materials, techniques, and treatment approaches. This comprehensive lecture explores the full spectrum of farriery—from the essential skills and anatomical knowledge underpinning effective hoof care, to the latest developments in shoeing products and therapeutic interventions.

Attendees will be guided through the core competencies of the farrier, including hoof trimming, balance assessment, conformation analysis, and shoe fitting—skills that remain the bedrock of sound farriery practice. From there, we will examine how scientific understanding and new technologies have expanded treatment options and refined methods for managing both healthy and pathological feet.

Particular focus will be given to recent advancements such as:

Glue-on shoes and adhesives for sensitive or compromised hooves
Shock-absorbing pads and anti-concussion materials that reduce impact stress
