Problematic parasites (SVS25)

This refresher will focus on clinically important aspects of companion animal parasite diseases encountered in Australasia and Asia, emphasising regional differences and priorities for their prevention and treatment.

• To describe parasite prevalence data by region and climate,
• To consider relative risk profiles for parasite diseases in companion animals,
• To describe preventative strategies for companion animal parasites based on region and climate,
• To recognise the importance of parasite biology and life cycles in understanding the treatment of certain important diseases, including hookworm and heartworm infections,
• To understand the zoonotic potential for certain companion animal parasites.
