This lecture will explore the use of medications to improve comfort in recovery. The first part of the session will look into the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), a drug that is frequently administered for peri-operative pain relief. The mechanism of action of NSAIDs and their most commonly observed adverse effects on the gastrointestinal and renal system will be reviewed. Other adverse effects will be explored, contraindications explained, and clinical strategies of their use will be discussed.
