Lameness in dogs is a common presenting complaint. Age at presentation will influence the differential diagnoses. Young dogs are prone to a variety of conditions that are not seen in older dogs or they may have a different presentation for pathologic conditions because of the early stage of their disease. This lecture will cover common causes of lameness in young dogs including Salter-Harris fractures, panosteitis, osteochondritis dissecans, hypertrophic osteodystrophy, elbow dysplasia, hip dysplasia, and cranial cruciate ligament ruptures. Diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis will be covered. Special considerations for anesthesia and postoperative care will also be discussed.
