In this lecture, Dr. Reinstein will review diabetic cataract formation and the associated complications of uveitis, secondary glaucoma, and corneal disease. Proper management of these conditions using a medical protocol will be presented. Cataract surgery will be briefly discussed.
- To understand the pathogenesis for diabetic cataract formation in dogs.
- To be able to recognize diabetic cataract and to determine if lens-induced uveitis is present.
- To formulate a proper treatment plan including referral for cataract surgery.
- To properly educate owners on the condition, and provide counselling for long term management and possible complications.
