Is back pain as simple as kissing spines? (LVS25)

Surgical treatment of back pain has become less invasive over the past decade and our understanding of the importance of post-operatively rehabilitation has increased. This lecture will reflect our increased understand of equine back pain and what else can be causing pain apart from kissing spines.

• In depth review of the anatomy of the equine back including both skeletal and muscular tissues.
• Develop an understanding of diagnosis of equine back.
• Understanding conservative and surgical treatment options available for horses with 'kissing spines'.
• Knowledge of how other other pathologies apart from overriding/impinging dorsal spinous processes may cause back pain.
