This session is designed to equip veterinary nurses with essential knowledge and confidence in interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs).

We’ll start by breaking down what an ECG is, how it reflects the heart’s electrical activity, and what each wave represents. You’ll learn how to obtain accurate, diagnostic-quality ECGs and understand what constitutes a normal tracing. The session will then explore abnormal rhythms, including supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, whether they be tachycardic or bradycardic. Through practical examples, we’ll cover how to recognise these arrhythmias and what clinical signs may accompany them.

Finally, we’ll discuss the various treatment options for arrhythmias, including medical therapies and other interventions commonly used in veterinary practice.
