How to: Local blocks and perioperative analgesia (LVS25)

This session explores the principles, techniques, and clinical applications of local and regional anaesthesia in the perioperative setting, alongside other analgesics. Emphasis is placed on enhancing patient outcomes through effective pain management strategies, minimising opioid use, and supporting early mobilisation.

• Explain the principles of multimodal perioperative analgesia and its role in enhancing recovery.
• Identify appropriate analgesic techniques—such as systemic medications, regional anaesthesia, and local blocks—based on surgical procedure, patient factors, and phase of recovery.
