Bovine TB is an infectious disease just like Johne’s, BVD, and Leptospirosis, yet unlike these infections, which vets and farmers manage well together, the private vet rarely gets involved in the management of this devastating disease.

What we need to do is re- engage as vets with TB as an infectious disease and understand what vets can do on farm to support farmers and ensure they are doing everything they can to reduce the chance of and length of a TB breakdown. There are positive things vets and farmers can do to take back some control over bovine TB.

This session will out line what TB risks are present on farm, what we can do to advise on reducing or eliminating them and importantly how to engage our farmers in controlling the controllable.

    • To understand why bovine TB control is important and to perceive TB as an infectious disease on farm, not just a disease that is controlled by Government.
    • To feel confident that private veterinary surgeons can play an important role in TB control by understanding what are the TB biosecurity risks and advising farmers on how to reduce if not eliminate them.
