In this lecture we will use multiple case examples to explore the use of point of care ultrasound (POCUS), specifically its limitations. Radiography has an extremely important place in managing the acutely unwell or hospitalised patient, and there is plenty more to glean from them than is usually recognised. While ultrasonography is becoming more accessible, and the limits of POCUS appear to be ever-extending, this lecture offers some words of caution…
Learning Outcomes
To recognise the limitations of point of care ultrasound To be better able to interpret thoracic radiographs To recognise the importance of radiographic anatomy To understand that the overall clinical picture of the animal will often outweigh your suspicions on diagnostic imaging. To recognise the value of the clinical history when interpreting radiographs (and ultrasound).
