Going wild, the role of vets in conservation
Going wild, the role of vets in conservation

This session will illustrate the diversity of roles available to vets and RVNs wishing to work in wildlife and conservation roles. Through the eyes of a veterinary nurse who has worked with clinical wildlife cases both overseas and in the UK, a Danish biologist whose work focuses on research to better understand the decline in European hedgehog numbers, and a veterinary media star with a passion for conservation and education, the session will highlight the pros and cons of this type of work. We will discuss where veterinary work and conservation overlap, and where they are sometimes at odds, especially where individual animal welfare is concerned. The session will also consider how members of the veterinary profession can contribute to conservation both internationally, nationally and locally.
