This session explores the vital role veterinary nurses play in wound management and antimicrobial stewardship. It will examine how evidence-based nursing interventions can improve wound outcomes while reducing reliance on systemic antimicrobials.Using a One Health perspective, delegates will consider how accurate wound assessment, effective infection control, appropriate dressing selection, and client education can directly influence antimicrobial use in clinical practice. The lecture will focus on practical, adjunctive approaches that prioritise local wound control, optimise healing, and minimise unnecessary antimicrobial exposure. Designed to empower veterinary nurses, the session will provide practical strategies to support nurse-led wound care, responsible antimicrobial use, and improved patient outcomes.
Presented at BVA Live 2026 in BVNA Nursing theatre on 11 June 2026, from 11:55 to 12:45.
