Dermatology or Ophthalmology? The Eyelid Margin Wars

Drugs or surgery? Ophthalmoscope or hand lens? Diseases of the eyelid are often thought to be an extension of ocular disease. But more often there is no ocular disease – and medical evaluation of the skin disease is required. Is it a dermatology problem or an ophthalmology case? This lecture reviews the basic anatomy of the eyelid, and presents a pictoral overview of the common diseases affecting the eyelids and the eyelid margins.
