Connecting the Dots: Felines, Kidney Disease & High-Protein Diets (WWV 2024)

This course will review kidney and urinary problems in cats. We’ll discuss the foods that contribute to feline crystals and stones, and look at the effects of high-protein cat foods in cats at various life stages with a focus on senior cats.

• Raise awareness around the concept that high-protein cat foods are detrimental to feline health
• Feline-specific products exist that provide the protein cats need without harmful oxalates
• Understand that oxalate-containing plant proteins can contribute to kidney disease in felines, especially senior cats
