When an owner walks in saying, “My pet’s eye looks cloudy,” the first thought is usually the cornea. But not all “cloudiness” is the same—and being able to tell the difference is key to diagnosis and treatment.
This session takes a practical, case-based approach to the corneal causes of opacity. We’ll look at how changes in the cornea—such as edema (blue haze), cellular infiltration (white opacity), pigment (brown/black), and scarring or mineral deposition—alter its normal clarity. Common conditions like ulcers, keratitis, endothelial disease, immune-mediated changes, and degenerations will be illustrated with real examples.
- You’ll learn an easy way to categorize opacity by color and character (blue, white, brown) to narrow your differentials quickly. We’ll also highlight which conditions are emergencies (like deep ulcers or melting keratitis) versus which are more chronic.
- By the end, you’ll have a clear, practical framework to approach the “opaque eye” in everyday practice—knowing what’s urgent, what you can manage, and when to refer.
