Zoonotic diseases pose a silent but significant risk in veterinary practice, not only to patients but also to staff and clients. This session explores the everyday behaviours, hygiene practices and procedures that could help prevent transmission of zoonotic pathogens in clinical settings. By identifying common risks and considering reasonable options, this session will give you the tools to identify and develop your own IPC protocols.
- Define what zoonotic diseases are and identify the most common zoonotic threats encountered in veterinary practice.
- Recognise high-risk procedures, patients and human behaviours that contribute to disease transmission.
- Identify the basic principles to uphold IPC standards within practice.
- Develop an understanding of practical strategies to apply in varied scenarios.
