In this VECCS/EVECCS international ECC session we will discuss how diagnostic investigations and treatment run in parallel with critical patients; acute abdomen patients are no exception. Patient stabilisation should be initiated immediately focusing on cardiovascular stability and analgesia. Acute abdomen is a broad term that includes inflammatory, infectious, ischaemic, traumatic conditions which need to have targeted treatment and clear decision making for these medical and surgical conditions which can be time critical. Prior to surgery, if required, patient stabilisation is essential before induction of general anaesthesia, maximising your patients chances for successful outcomes.
