This session will examine peer reviewed published papers relating to the science of nutrition and will relate these to the health impacts of minimally processed diets (raw) and of ultra processed foods.  The emphasis will be on practical learning outcomes which can be applied by clinicians in everyday practice to the benefit of feline and canine patients.

  • 1) What exactly do we mean by ultra- processed foods in the context of pet nutrition?
  • 2) What is the difference in significance between a peer reviewed data based published paper and a published opinion piece?
  • 3) Understanding the lack of direct comparisons between raw and processed pet foods in terms of health outcomes and how to bridge this gap using reliable information which is currently available
  • 4) The reasons why many veterinary professionals are lacking reliable information about minimally processed foods and how to address this lack in very practical terms.
