Pig diseases are many and varied therefore this presentation will focus on four that are of specific economic and/or public health impact. Namely swine dysentery, salmonellosis, erysipelas and porcine parvovirus. We will cover the presentation, diagnosis and treatment of each as well as prevention strategies. Also the importance of biosecurity measures to prevent disease incursion as well as minimise spread within different age groups of a herd.Considering the current disease threat to the UK pig herd from both African Swine Fever (ASF) and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea virus (PEDv), as well as the similarity in presenting clinical signs to other diseases discussed, we will review their clinical signs and the advice to give to pig keepers to protect their herds.
