In 2016, responding to member feedback and the Vet Futures Report, BVA launched its first Animal Welfare Strategy, 'Vets Speaking Up for Animal Welfare'. Covering priority areas including advocacy, ethics and animal welfare in an international context, it has provided a foundation for high-profile BVA activity including lobbying for sentience to be recognised in UK law, the #BreedToBreathe campaign on the welfare of brachycephalic animals and the #ChooseAssured campaign to promote sustainable animal agriculture. In this presentation, Sean Wensley will review how, through working with others, the strategy is supporting the veterinary profession to create a better world for animals and how this might develop further in the next five years.
