Attending an equestrian competition of any type can be stressful since the unexpected often occurs with the horses, not to mention communicating with owners, riders, agents and competition officials.  The presentation will cover the essentials of preparation for the day, potential situations that might be encountered and management suggestions for these incidents.  The presentation will cover some common scenarios that could be anticipated at different events.  The presentation will focus on racing and eventing competitions but the content will be applicable to any equestrian competition such as a pony club competition, an endurance ride or an international competition.  By the conclusion of the presentation, delegates should have gained some practical information to make the experience of being the veterinary surgeon on duty at any equine event, more enjoyable and less stressful.

    • To gain an appreciation of the key areas of preparation required prior to attending an equestrian competition
    • To understand the essential equipment and drugs that should be part of your veterinary toolbox for a competition
