This presentation will explore the role of prebiotics, probiotics, postbiotics and parabiotics in veterinary care. Key points include defining each category and their mechanisms of action in supporting gut health, immune function and overall well-being. The presentation will discuss how prebiotics fuel beneficial gut bacteria, probiotics introduce live beneficial microbes, postbiotics offer health benefits from bacterial byproducts and parabiotics (non-living microbes) support immune response. Clinical applications, evidence-based benefits and potential risks or contraindications will also be covered, with a focus on practical recommendations for integrating these biotics into patient care.
Learning outcomes:
• Enhanced understanding of prebiotics, probiotics, postbiotics, and parabiotics, and how each affects patient health.
• Increased knowledge of the clinical applications and benefits of biotics in managing gut health, immune function, and disease prevention.
