This lecture will cover the use of ultrasound and how much information you can get in a short period of time. The terms Point-of-Care and FAST scanning will be covered to illustrate that ultimately you are performing an abdominal ultrasound much like you do a physical examination, in a routine fashion trying to assess and determine next steps in a patient. Disease processes like foreign body obstruction and tumors will be shown and time spent talking about how to tell the difference. Ultimately, the main goal is to provide a level of comfort and understanding as well as make sure a support system is in place to continue practicing and performing ultrasound examinations in the small animal patient.
- Understand the use of ultrasound in general practice
- Understand the limitations of ultrasound diagnoses
- See case examples to illustrate the diversity of disease.
