    Misconceptions of analgesic drug effects/adverse effects often limit efficacious and safe use of the drug. Mechanisms of action, appropriate patient selection and appropriate use of a variety of analgesic drugs used for both acute and chronic pain will be discussed.

    At the end of this session the attendee will be able to
    1.Describe the most common effects/adverse effects of a variety of analgesic drugs.
    2.Define patient limitations for the use of those drugs.
    3.Develop efficacious and safe analgesic protocols using unimodal or multimodal drug therapy.
