Managing feline trauma - a multi-disciplinary approach

Feline trauma is a common reason for presentation to both first opinion and referral practice. This lecture will describe the initial stabilisation of the cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological systems of the feline trauma patient. Decision-making for when diagnostic tests are required, including a pragmatic approach for the client with financial constraints will be discussed. The use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to aid understanding of the severity of injuries will be described. An overview of the management of wounds, penetrating injuries and body wall ruptures, traumatic brain injury and urinary tract rupture will be provided giving strategies for managing complex cases.
