Recognition and treatment of pain is an essential part of first-aid for any animal, but can be challenging in the more exotic species. Prey animals will naturally hide their signs of pain and responses may vary depending whether this is an acute or chronic situation. Analgesic efficacy also varies between species, so it is important to understand the key differences in order to provide effective analgesia. This lecture will cover how to recognise and manage pain in small mammals and other exotic pets.
