Dealing with donkeys - not just long-eared horses (LVS25)

Topics include pain recognition, drug metabolism, and management of common conditions such as hyperlipaemia, laminitis, colic, and sarcoids. It emphasizes donkeys’ stoicism, unique social bonds, and behavioural traits, which affect diagnosis and treatment. Practical guidance is provided on sedation, castration, hoof care, and handling techniques. The role of The Donkey Sanctuary in supporting veterinary professionals is also outlined. The session aims to equip vets with species-specific knowledge to improve welfare and clinical outcomes for donkeys
