Pancreatitis can be challenging to diagnose in both dogs and cats, but alarmingly more so in the latter. Acute pancreatitis is generally easy to diagnose using imaging modalities, however there are species differences in contributing causes and comorbidities and non-pancreatic disease can easily be missed. Management of the spectrum of pancreatitis is similar between dogs and cats, but understanding those key differences in contributing diseases and consequences of pancreatic inflammation is key to maximising successful outcomes.
