Chronic pain management: Highlights from recently published guidelines

The lecture will include a discussion on the influence of pain on animal welfare and the role of veterinary professionals to safeguard the latter. Highlights from recent guidelines on the assessment and management of pain in dogs and cats will be presented. Focus will be given to chronic pain as a disease including evidence-based recommendations for its management.

- Define animal welfare and explain the role of veterinary professionals to safeguard it. - Explain what chronic pain is and why it can be considered as a ‘disease in its own right’. - List the tools and therapeutic strategies with high level evidence of efficacy to support chronic pain management.
