Recent rethinking on oesophageal disease, and emerging prevalence of brachycephalic breeds has led to a change in the way we approach oesophageal disease. The association between reflux and brachycephalic airway syndrome is increasingly being recognised. Even the previously grave diagnosis of megaoesophagus is no longer a simple one of exclusion, as functional problem with the lower oesophageal sphincter and food associated disease need to be considered. A logical and thorough clinical approach will allow for quick and effective management of the conditions.
