Hyperemia of the ocular surface (“red-eye”) is one of the most common and potentially critical presenting complaints in ophthalmology. Some of the most worrisome cases ophthalmologists see are those where ocular redness was misinterpreted as “just conjunctivitis” with serious and potentially blinding diseases such as ulcerative keratitis, uveitis, or glaucoma not adequately investigated. This lecture will ensure a logical approach to all of the differential diagnoses that cause ocular hyperemia.

  • To differentiate conjunctival hyperemia from episcleral injection
  • To adopt a logical approach to diagnosing the cause of red eye
  • To differentiate glaucoma uveitis and conjunctivitis
  • To logically apply the 7 diagnostic tests essential for all red eyes
