Keratoconjunctivitis sicca is presented more frequently than we expect, so we must ask ourselves how many of these cases we are missing. What is the normal Schirmer tear test value and how do we reliably take them. Should we only be looking at values that are low, or is there a lot of information to be learnt from values that are above the standard reference range. In this presentation we aim to look at the causes of keratoconjunctivitis sicca, why we might be missing cases of KCS and what treatment options are available. We will also try and explain some of those difficult cases that have keratoconjunctivitis sicca along with other ocular pathology that potentially elevates the Schirmer tear test to within normal reference range.
