Today's veterinarian needs to understand the scope of the opioid epidemic, and how drug diversion from their hospital impacts this crisis. Being aware of the types of diversion and signs of someone diverting will help the hospital to set up and run a Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Program required by the DEA. A complete understanding will also include identifying who the regulators and enforcers are, and the schedules of controlled substances at both the state and federal level.
