A feline patient presents with acute onset of vomiting, anorexia and decreased activity. Initial evaluation identifies severe azotemia. Is it the kidney’s fault (the criticalist thinks so), or is the problem pre- or post-renal in origin (the internist likes to consider everything)? Is the patient producing urine? Can a non-specialist veterinarian diagnose renal pelvic dilation with a degree of accuracy?
