Epilepsy is the most common neurological presentation in veterinary practice, and despite the amount of antiepileptic drugs available on the market, many of our patients continue to suffer a high number of seizures that can affect the quality of life of both the patient and the owner. Epilepsy should be considered as the clinical manifestation of a multifactorial disease of the brain and therefore its treatment could also be considered multimodal. The ideal treatment should be individually focused on the patient including antiepileptic medication, an appropriate nutrition plan and identify possible environmental/stress factors that might be involved in epileptic seizures. During this talk we will talk about those parts of epilepsy treatment that go beyond medications and therefore include diet, possible environmental factors, and vagal nerve stimulation.
