Foal diseases: From neonate to weanling

This session will review the most common ailments of foals during the first six months of life. It will cover assessment, diagnostic tests and therapeutics using a practical, age-based approach. There will also be some discussion on foal handling, emergency stabilisation and managing owner expectations in the field setting.

• Perform a comprehensive assessment of the sick foal
• Become familiar with common diseases at different ages and implement appropriate therapy

Recognise when referral is necessary and develop knowledge of what can be achieved in a field setting
