A definitive diagnosis of endocrine disorders usually requires special testing, including provocative testing and specific hormone assessments. However, many common endocrinopathies cause characteristic or, in some cases, pathognomonic changes that may be detected by routine laboratory tests. Furthermore, recognition of these changes may provide an opportunity for diagnosis prior to the onset of severe clinical signs. The talk will review changes on routine clinical pathology tests expected to occur in dogs and cats with various endocrine disorders. Emphasis will be on recognizing the importance of these changes to increase clinical suspicion for the presence of endocrinopathy in our patients and to guide a rational strategy for monitoring and follow-up testing of at-risk patients.
