Responsible Usage of Antibiotics in the Dairy Industry: a Review of the Dutch Approach

As a farm vet setting goals and convincing your clients to act on them can be difficult. The reduction and responsible usage of antibiotics in the dairy industry remains one of the most challenging goals. Even though as vets our advice is based on “GVP”, our clients still largely remain free to choose whether or not they decide to follow through. Over the last decade Dutch dairy farmers and farm vets have worked together with the Dutch government to create a transparent system to tackle this issue, whilst striving to maintain produce quality and animal welfare standards.
