Notifiable diseases (ND) are those where there is a legal obligation on individuals to report suspicion of notifiable disease to the Animal Health authorities. As vets attending livestock, you are the country’s “eyes and ears” and your vigilance plays a key role in early detection of ND. Maintaining awareness of the main ND risks to the UK, and changes in these, and familiarity with the clinical signs and pathology of the NDs of livestock is essential knowledge. This presentation will provide an overview of selected ND in pigs; African swine fever, classical swine fever, foot and mouth disease, and Aujeszky’s disease. The current global situation for each of these diseases and particular threats to the UK will be highlighted, as well as providing information on their key clinical signs and gross lesions.
