Veterinary Social Work (VSW) is a growing field, where mental health professionals focus on the human-animal bond, across many different fields. From supporting pet owners in veterinary clinics with pet loss to individual sessions using animal-assisted interventions. This session the guest panel from the International Association of Veterinary Social Work will be focusing on different ways a VSW can support mental health in the veterinary field, such as in a veterinary college, animal shelter, and in public clinics and hospitals. VSW can be utilized by hospital staff who are seeking support in compassion fatigue, burnout, communication, and debriefs following a difficult case. They can also be utilized by clients who are seeking support following a loss of a pet, need support emotional when contemplating quality of life, and need support in a crisis.
