An Insight into Pet Bereavement looks into one of the hardest situations in practice, when a client losses their pet either through passing away or being euthanised. This for some of your clients is one of the most difficult undertakings that they will have to endure.
We will look at the stages of grief that most clients will go through when they lose their pet including acceptance, complicated grief and its underlying factors, different client types that have suffered a loss, talking to those that are grieving and examining some of the things to say. We then turn our attention to euthanasia itself in practice and suggestions for best working practices.
Finally we look at compassion fatigue in veterinary staff and what signs to look out for along with some of the measures to take to prevent possible burnout and improve the general wellbeing of the entire practice staff.
