This lecture will review the indications and surgical techniques for abdominal organ biopsies. The focus will be on the surgical anatomy of the liver, intestines and pancreas and the optimum way to biopsy these organs, based upon clinical presentation and findings at exploratory laparotomy. Tips to avoid common complications and methods to detect and treat these complications will be discussed.
