Fractures are common in dogs, particularly in growing dogs. The steps needed to diagnose a fracture, to decide whether conservative management should be considered, to decide what surgical procedure is warranted, and to manage patients with fractures before and after surgery vary widely, but patterns and general rule will help practitioners manage fracture patients optimally. This lecture will present algorithms for diagnosis and management of fractures in dogs and cats.

    • Learn the classic types of fractures seen in dogs.
    • Learn the fracture management options for classic fracture types in dogs and when to select each of these management options.
    • Learn how to manage dogs before and after fracture repair
