This session will focus on the surgical management of jaundice in dogs and cats. We will explore when to take animals to surgery, the decision making process when taking a jaundiced patient to surgery and the details of what to do at surgery. By the end of the session you should be able to understand the difference between a cholecystectomy, a cholecystoduodenostomy and a choledochotomy and know when to perform each procedure. We will also discuss the importance of post-operative management, focusing on multi-modal analgesia, nutrition, patient monitoring, and other nuances of post-operative hepatobiliary patients including management of complications.
