It's tempting, but here’s why you shouldn’t.
We’ve all avoided a difficult conversation. It stirs too many emotions, it’s too hard or there’s too many adverse consequences - maybe people won’t like us anymore.
Avoiding difficult conversations is the reason people stay in jobs they don’t like. It’s why colleague relationships turn sour. And it’s why employees aren’t engaged. Oh, and all that negatively impacts your bottom line.
For those who prefer solid data over a movie quote:
· 50% of managers cite having difficult conversations as their biggest challenge
· 34% of managers admit to putting off a difficult conversation
So let’s have a conversation... about conversation. I promise, it’s not that difficult – but it will change the game.
