Providing extra-mural studies (EMS) to students is a great way to give back and kick-start the careers of tomorrow’s vets. Amidst a shortage of veterinary talent it also remains one of the best ways to recruit a gem of a new graduate.

In this panel discussion we consider simple things that you can do to provide a more personalised learning experience that will keep students flocking to your workplace.

We breakdown the provision of EMS placements into three key phases: planning, the placement itself and feedback and review. We consider common student frustrations with EMS and what employers can do to mitigate these challenges. We also consider the university intra-mural rotation (IMR) teaching model and what learnings we can transferred to improve the quality of EMS.

    • Understand what students want from EMS
    • Processes within better planning, delivery and review your EMS
    • Common pitfalls of EMS and how to avoid
    • Quality improvement: a comparison between EMS and IMR
