
This presentation will give an overview of the recent trends of infectious diseases of dogs and cats, their diagnostics, public health significance and brief update on antimicrobial resistance.
The attendees will gain an understanding of the preferred sample type for submissions to the laboratory and requesting appropriate testing methods for accurate and rapid infectious disease diagnostics. The attendees will learn about common and emerging infectious diseases (bacterial, fungal, viral) and available laboratory diagnostics tools to diagnose them. The attendees will understand the public health significance of diseases transmitted to humans from animals and vice-versa, and learn about problems associated with antimicrobial drug resistance and the importance of prudential use of antibiotics.
