This can lead to a task focused approach within the clinical environment, where emphasis lies on demonstrating competence of a task in isolation, as opposed to considering the task in relation to the patient’s individual needs.

With the role of the professional veterinary nurse continuously evolving alongside an increasing ability to provide greater patient care, it is essential that our next generation of nurses feel confident in the clinical decisions they will be required to make and can recognise the impact of these decisions on patient care and progress. Knowledge application is an important component of patient care, enabling student nurses to understand the patients’ specific needs and have greater understanding of their disease process and how it may progress. This enables nurses to not only anticipate their patient’s requirements but respond rapidly to clinical changes.

This lecture will explore ways in which we can enhance our students clinical experience, encourage deeper learning and positively demonstrate the decisions RVNs are making daily, while advocating for their patient’s.

Delegates will be able to…..

Differentiate between task focused and patient focused nursing

Develop methods to encourage students to apply knowledge in clinical practice

Recognise clinical decisions nurses make in practice

Support student nurses through the clinical decision-making process

Chairperson

Gina Parkes, DipAVN PgCert (Vet Ed) FHEA RVN, Head Medicine Nurse - Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, Royal Veterinary College

Speakers

Kelly Druce, PgDip VetEd, BSc (Hons), DTLLS FHEA RVN, Medicine/Oncology Nurse and Teaching Fellow in Veterinary Nursing - Royal Veterinary College

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0102/9989/9959/files/VSA_35_2308c8f7-9ed0-4398-a334-82b5815cd9ad.png?v=1770046170
https://academy.vetshow.com/products/from-task-completion-to-knowledge-application-guiding-svns-in-practice-lvs25
