Thoracic radiology is an essential part of veterinary practice but the interpretation of thoracic radiographs often leads to anxiety amongst veterinarians. This presentation will review the pulmonary parenchymal changes that occur with disease using a distribution and pattern based approach. Certain pulmonary diseases characteristically occur in the cranioventral or caudodorsal regions of the lungs. Integrating this knowledge, with the identification of the pulmonary pattern present, aids the construction of a logical ranked order list of differential diagnoses. The sometimes hazy, shadowy world of thoracic radiology will be demystified and made sense of with this practical approach to interpretation. Clinical case examples will be used to demonstrate how this approach with the aim of making reading thoracic radiographs a rewarding part of veterinary practice.
